I've had my turtle 18 years and I have never scratched his back. lol  I do apply some sort of lanolin paste on him after water changes.

If anyone here knows it will be Barb since she works with salt water at the Aquarium where she volunteers.

I tried to download the story but it won't do it.  What did it say?  Off hand I must say I haven't heard of this before, in either fresh or saltwater turtles, I know a bit about both as we have lots of each at the aquarium.  Will be there tomorrow, I will ask a turtle expert if I can.
